At 17:25hrs on December 6, 2009 the Shepherdstown Fire Department and the Shepherdstown Police Department along with Jefferson County Sherriffs Department, Shepherd University police, and Harpers Ferry police department were dispatched to the area of Rt. 480, known as North Duke Street, in the vicinity of the crosswalk connecting the East Campus of Shepherd University with the West Campus for what was believed to be a hit and run. According to Police officials, the driver later returned to the scene. Emergency Responders found a 22 year old male victim that had been struck by a vehicle. It is reported that the victim is a student of Shepherd University. Shepherdstown Fire Department responded to the scene with Medic 3, Duty 3, and Rescue Engine 3. Upon arrival of Medic 3, patient care was established and the 22 year old male patient showed signs of traumatic injury compatible with being struck by a vehicle. Medic 3 called for Aeronautical transport, but due to a prolonged Estimated Time of Arrival proceeded to transport the critical patient to City Hospital of Martinsburg. At time of publication, the patient is believed to be in stable condition. The last of the Emergency Responders cleared the scene at 18:06 hrs.
