On June 8-9 SVFD ran 4 incidents resluting in a mixed variety of calls. At 12:15 SVFD was alterted to assist Washington County, MD with a River Rescue on the Potomac River at the Princess St. boat ramp. RE3 arrived as the two victims were being taken to shore. RE3 went available shortly after.
At 13:03 SVFD along with Sharpsburg and Baker Heights were dispatched for a Haz-Mat incident at the Shepherdstown Waste Water Treatment Facility at 409 East High St. Haz-Mat crews were requested from Washington and Berkeley Counties as well. RE3 met plant workers a block away and were advised that one 150 lb. chlorine cylinder had leaked and filled the building full of gas. Due to the nature of chlorine gas the OIC (Lt. Fluharty) made the decision not to enter the structrue and to secure the street and access lane to the plant. RE3 staged at the entrance to the plant (approx. 300+ ft away) and established East High St. Command. A staging area was set up for incoming units on East High St. near the Railroad Crossing. Safety Officer 3 (D. Thomas) was assigned Staging Officer.
